RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Advocates of energy efficiency hope to drive home their message with a parade of hybrid cars at the state capitol.
The Wise Energy for Virginia Coalition is hosting the parade Saturday to try to convince Gov. Tim Kaine and legislators to approve legislation that aims to reduce Virginia's energy consumption 19 percent by 2025. Kaine supported the initiative, but two bills that passed the General Assembly fell short of that goal.
The coalition is urging Kaine to amend the bills and asking legislators to approve the amendments.
The coalition consists of groups like the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Appalachian Voices, the Virginia Sierra Club chapter, the Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards and the Southern Environmental Law Center.
