FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) - A Longwood University sorority is closing following allegations of hazing and underage drinking.
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded at Longwood more than a century ago, but its national office is closing the local chapter less than a month after it had been reinstated with sanctions for policy violations.
National president Laura Ladewig Mauro said in a statement that all chapters "must abide by the ideals and principles of our sisterhood if they wish to remain a part of our organization.
Sorority representatives will conduct hearings with current chapter members that could result in expulsion from the sorority. Longwood also will conduct an administrative hearing.(Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
