A Henrico County high school football coach was in court Wednesday, facing several counts of sex-related charges against underage female students.
William "Mac" Leighton, head coach of the J.R. Tucker football team, is facing three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial role, and two counts of soliciting child pornography.
Investigators said Leighton allegedly used his cell phone for "sexting" with two alleged victims, aged 15 and 17 at the time of the incidents. Prosecutors said Leighton did not have physical relations with the younger victim.
School officials said they took action as soon as they found out about the alleged incident, and that Leighton has not had contact with any students for "weeks." Spokesperson Mychael Dickerson also said Leighton underwent and passed a background check when he was hired.
Leighton, 31, is a former football player at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. His bond is set at $50,000.
