A planned fair, scheduled to start later this week at The Diamond, has been postponed.
Fair Nation, a Tennessee-based group, originally aimed to bring the "Richmond Fair" to the old State Fairgrounds at the Richmond Raceway Complex in Henrico County. Plans for that fair were scrapped in June due to what Fair Nation officials called "unreasonable" demands from Henrico County.
Shortly after, the group entered talks with the Richmond Metropolitan Authority to hold a fair in the parking lot of the Diamond. An agreement was reached, but again Fair Nation ran into issues trying to obtain a security permit.
Fair Nation president Philip Downing told 8News Wednesday the fair was "postponed" due to circumstances out of his control. Downing said he hopes to hold the fair closer to the end of July.
The nonprofit company that runs the Virginia State Fair sued Fair Nation and Universal Fairs in March, accusing them of unfair competition and trademark infringement. The lawsuit was settled in May.
