A former nurse at a Nottoway County health care facility is being accused of abusing at least nine incapacitated patients.

46-year-old Catherine Harris turned herself into investigators this week. Harris was a nurse at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville.

Harris is accused of abusing several elderly patients in her care between December 2008 and April of this year. Investigators said Harris physically abused the nine patients, leaving them with non life-threatening injuries.

Harris is facing 9 counts of Abuse and Neglect of an Incapacitated Adult, which is a class 1 misdemeanor.

She remains free on bond while she awaits trial.
