According to an industry publication, a private equity firm has outbid grocery chain Harris Teeter in an effort to acquire Ukrop's Supermarkets.
According to supermarketnews.com, the unnamed private group's bid effectively takes Harris Teeter out of the running.
Ukrop's continues to refuse comment on speculation the chain has put itself up for sale. Harris Teeter also never confirmed its interest in Ukrop's.
A spokesperson for Ukrop's Tuesday again denied comment on the latest rumor, but did say Ukrop's was planning to announce a sizable charitable donation to local non-profit companies later this week.
