New Details Emerge In Case Of Missing VT Student

Police are releasing new information in case of a missing Virginia Tech student who was last seen Saturday night at a Metallica concert on the University of Virginia Campus.

Investigators confirm 20-year-old Morgan Harrington's cell phone and purse were discovered by a passerby in a parking area near the John Paul Jones Arena and turned over to police Sunday morning.

"Many have speculated about a battery that was missing from the cell phone," said Virginia State Lt. Joe Radar.  "Based on interviews we have conducted, it would not be unusual for this particular incident that the battery would drop out of the cell phone."

Police say Harrington left the John Paul Jones Arena around 8:30 PM to use the bathroom and ended up outside.  She couldn't get back into the concert because of a no re-entry policy.  Officers say she called her friends, told them she wouldn't be coming back in, and they didn't need to worry about meeting up with her again.

"We can confirm that she was on the grounds in the John Paul Johns Arena area up through 9:30 Saturday night," said Radar.

Rader said police are handling this case as a criminal investigation because Harrington has not been found.  Officers concluded their ground and air search Wednesday.

Police also announced a big reward for significant information on bringing Harrington home.

"The family, as well as those parties involved, have said at the minimum it would be $50,000," said Rader.
