RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The mass shootings at Fort Hood in Texas is not prompting any immediate security changes at most military installations in Virginia.
A check Thursday at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Naval Station Norfolk and Fort Monroe in Hampton found no security upgrades in the hours after the killings at Fort Hood.
At Marine Corps Base at Quantico, a spokesman said the base was at "threat condition alpha" after the shootings.
Elsewhere in Virginia, public affairs officers said they were vigilant and monitoring the situation in Texas.
Virginia is home to tens of thousands active-duty soldiers, sailors and Marines. Many of those military personnel and civilian employees are located at bases in the Hampton Roads area.
