A Dinwiddie County 13-year-old is being charged with a felony after allegedly putting degreasing liquid cleanser in a teacher's drink.
Police say it happened November 2 at Dinwiddie Junior High School. The student was in a home economics class and put the toxic cleanser in the teacher's soft drink while she was working in another part of the classroom.
"She did take a sip of the drink and that's when she tasted something that she thought was odd," said Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office Captain William Knott.
The school nurse, a resource officer, and poison control were contacted. Investigators say the teacher went to Southside Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.
Dinwiddie County School's acting superintendent says the teacher is back at work and that the student has been disciplined. Administrators would not say how the student was punished and if he is still in the home economics class.
The 13-year-old is being charged with one felony count of malicious bodily injury by means of a caustic substance.
"It's a serious incident no matter what his motivation was...whether it being a joke or whether he had some grudge against the teacher," said Knott.
