City of Richmond -
The Richmond City Health District has plenty of H1N1 vaccine for pregnant women and City residents that are in the priority group currently recommended for vaccination.
This includes:
- children and young adults to age 24
- persons aged 25-64 with chronic medical conditions or weakened immune system
- caregivers of infants younger than 6-months
- healthcare and emergency medical personnel
Priority group persons are encouraged to call 482-5506 for an appointment. H1N1 vaccinations are provided Monday through Friday at the Richmond Public Health building, 400 E. Cary Street.
The Richmond Health District has been receiving shipments of vaccine more frequently and in greater quantities. With the increasing vaccine inventory and more dependable delivery schedule, the Health District is stepping up its campaign to get the vaccine to those in the priority group as quickly as possible. This includes students attending local schools.
The Richmond Health District is beginning vaccination at public middle and high schools this week and is administering a second round of vaccination at elementary schools for students under age ten (children under age 10 require two doses of vaccine spaced 4-weeks apart).
A vaccination permission form is needed for any student that wants to get vaccinated. Parents can contact their child's school for a form.
The improved vaccine supply is also allowing the Health District to fast-forward plans to provide vaccination opportunities for J. Sargeant Reynolds College and also Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority communities.
The Health District hopes to complete the majority of school vaccinations before the upcoming school winter-break holiday.
