Amelia Woman Killed In Chesterfield Crash

Police say an Amelia woman is dead after a single vehicle crash Sunday morning in Chesterfield.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., Virginia State Police Trooper A. C. Wood was called to the scene on Powhite Parkway, just south of Midlothian Turnpike.

Police say a 2001 Dodge Dakota was traveling south on Powhite Parkway when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and ran off the road to the right again striking the guardrail.  They say the vehicle then traveled along the guardrail for 40 feet before overturning onto its roof.

The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Jennifer O. Smith of Amelia. Police say she was not wearing her safety belt and died at the scene.  Her passenger 40-year-old Jackie C. Chambers of Farmville was not wearing her safety belt and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Chambers was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center.

Police say the crash remains under investigation but alcohol is a factor in the crash.
