LADYSMITH, Va. (AP) - An 18-year-old Virginia man has been given a 20-year suspended sentence after agreeing to plead guilty to malicious wounding charge stemming from the fatal shooting of a teenager at a party.
Deon Kirk Jeter is the last of nine people charged with murder by mob in the shooting death of 16-year-old Raquel Hunter in Caroline County just over two years ago. Jeter pleaded guilty to the reduced charge Tuesday as part of deal with prosecutors.
Jeter said after the hearing that he regrets Hunter's death. Eight others charged in the case have been convicted.
