Girl Abducted From New Kent Hospital Found

UPDATE: Alexis Cartwright and her father, Lemuel Cartwright were located in Manning, South Carolina Wednesday. Police say Alexis is in good condition. Cartwright is facing charges of abduction and child neglect. He is scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday.


Virgina State Police have issued an endangered missing child alert after an 11-year-old girl believed abducted from a New Kent County medical facility.

Alexis Cartwright, of North Carolina, was last seen at the Cumberland Children's Hospital in New Kent, and may be in the custody of her father, 55-year-old Lemuel Cartwright. Police believe Cartwright removed his daughter from the hospital without permission from North Carolina Social Services.

Alexis is described as a white female, 5 foot 3 inches weighing 137 pounds. She has sandy blond hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a blue Aeropostale coat, yellow/green shirt and blue jeans. She is an insulin dependent diabetic and requires medication twice a day.

Lemuel Cartwright is described as a white male, 6 foot 7 inches tall, with brown eyes and brown hair. He may be driving a blue 1993 Dodge Ram pickup truck with North Carolina plates XYZ – 8450.

They may be headed to Bath, North Carolina.
