A Petersburg fire captain is facing misdemeanor charges for the mistreatment of dogs at a rental property in Chesterfield County.
Jeffery T. Ivey, 36, has been suspended from Petersburg Fire Department with pay, pending the outcome of an investigation.
According to Chesterfield Police, animal control officers responded earlier this week to the property in the 11200 block of River Road after receiving a call stating there were abused or neglected dogs in the yard. On arrival, officers found four dead dogs and four live dogs.
All of the surviving dogs were removed form the property and are being treated.
Ivey, a nine-year veteran of the fire department, is facing two misdemeanor charges related to the improper disposal of the dead animals as well as the mistreatment of the living animals.
