Gov Opposes Trying Gitmo Detainees In Va

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is reiterating his opposition to the detention or trial of any Guantanamo Bay detainee taking place in the commonwealth.

Monday's comments came as McDonnell also noted that New York City officials have expressed their opposition to hosting the civilian trial of 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad.

Virginia has several locations, including Alexandria and Newport News, that have been suggested as possible civilian trial locations.

McDonnell said the 2006 trial of Zacarias Moussaoui at the federal courthouse in Alexandria caused significant disruptions and concern in that community.

He said he remains opposed to similar trials occurring anywhere in the state.
