Governor talks aeronautics, agriculture in Europe

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell says his first overseas trade mission to Europe is expected to pay dividends in jobs, particularly in aeronautics and agriculture.

In a 15-minute trans-Atlantic phone monologue with Virginia reporters Thursday, McDonnell said he had been talking to business leaders in England, the Netherlands and most recently Germany.

Among those with whom he met were Rolls-Royce, the world's second-largest maker of aircraft engines. The British company broke ground last year on a factory in Prince George County that will make and test engines for midsize jets.

McDonnell said his contacts should result in two to four announcements of job expansions in Virginia shortly after he returns from his weeklong trip.
