UPDATE: I-64 West Back Open After Tanker Crash


All lanes on I-64 west have been re-opened.


UPDATE: All lanes are closed on I-64 west at mile marker 161 in the Oilville area for oil spill cleanup following an earlier tractor trailer accident. State Police is detouring traffic off I-64 west at Oilville Road/Route 617 (Exit 167) in Goochland County to Broad Street Road/Route 250 west and back on I-64 west at Cross County Road/Route 522 (Exit 159) in Louisa County. Cleanup is expected to continue through 3 p.m. Expect major delays.


One person was injured when an oil tanker crashed on westbound I-64 in Goochland Wednesday morning.

The crash happened about two miles east of the Gum Spring exit just after 7 a.m. According to State Police, the tanker, carrying 400 gallons of hydraulic oil, lost control and left the roadway. The tanker smashed into several trees, spilling some of its contents.

The driver suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to the hospital. His condition is not known.

Environmental Protection Agency officials are on scene to determine what damage the oil spill has caused.
