Troopers are investigating a deadly car crash on Interstate 295 in Henrico County. One child died and another seriously injured after being thrown from the mini-van they were riding in around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
State Police say a total of six children were riding in the mini-van at the time, the woman lost control of the van, when off the road and struck the embankment, the van then flipped in the median. The driver and all five children in the van were taken to the hospital, only one is in serious condition.
Two of the four lanes are now back open but troopers say you can expect delays in that area.
Authorities say children ages range from infant to 14 years of age. She was traveling back to her home in New Jersey.
We do know that she is the mother of the child that died on the scene.
The investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
