WASHINGTON (AP) - Adam Wainwright threw a two-hitter Thursday night for his seventh career shutout, chipped in at the plate with a double and single, and St. Louis benefited from four errors by Washington in the Cardinals' 8-0 victory. Wainwright allowed Ian Desmond's infield single in the second inning and Adam LaRoche's single to right in the ninth.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Right-hander Doug Fister threw two innings at extended spring training in Florida and could join the Nationals in about three weeks "assuming all goes well," manager Matt Williams said. Williams said Fister had "no issues" Thursday. Fister is on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 23 with a strained back muscle.

(AP) - Duke freshman Jabari Parker is entering the NBA draft. Coach Mike Krzyzewski says in a statement Thursday it was "an honor for us to have him in our program." In an essay posted on SI.com, Parker says the NBA offers him the best chance to develop both as a player and off the court.

(AP) - North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell says star freshman Diamond DeShields plans to transfer. In a statement Thursday, Hatchell says she doesn't know "or understand" why DeShields is leaving. Hatchell didn't coach this year while focusing on treatment for leukemia, which is in remission.
