
John Bernier has been the chief meteorologist for WRIC TV8 since 1984. He also serves as meteorologist for the Agrinet Farm Radio Network, WGAI in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, WCXL in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, and WWOC-FM in Hatteras, North Carolina.
John holds a B.S. degree in Meteorology from the University of Lowell, Massachusetts, Magna Cum Laude. He is a holder of the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting and the most experienced active holder of the National Weather Association's Certification of Television Weathercasting.
John is also the recipient of a Special Service Award from the National Weather Service for work done concerning severe weather. He won the 1993 Emmy for the best weathercaster in the mid Atlantic region.
Currently, John is serving as Media Editor for the National Weather Association's Quarterly Digest. He is also a member of the National Weather Association's Committee on radio and television weathercasting. John is married, has two children, and resides in Midlothian, Virginia.
