Newsroom Assistant WRIC 8 News is looking for a Newsroom Assistant who is organized, enthusiastic and passionate about news. The ideal candidate must be willing to do it all in the newsroom - editor, assignment editor and digital content producer. This person must display creativity, attention to detail, and understand the value of capturing compelling video and sound. Must be able to edit pictures to words and tell a story. No wallpaper video. The successful candidate must be able to master Edius editing system. This person will also assist on the assignment desk: Monitoring scanners, answering phone calls, coordinating logistics, dispatching crews and writing for our digital platforms. The ideal candidate must be able to make quick decisions under pressure and meet deadlines. Must be a good communicator and work well with others. The ideal candidate is a hungry journalist who is willing to chase down resources and make dozens of calls in an effort to get to the one person they need for the story. This person will produce relevant investigative stories that support the station's brand using an interview style that holds officials accountable, undercover techniques, powerful writing, and the ability to use data and graphics in a compelling way. Knowledge of the FOIA process, computer-assisted reporting, data-driven reporting and legal issues related to investigative television news reporting are required. Ability to produce under tight deadlines day-of sidebar stories that provide deeper context to the day's big news is critical. In addition, this person must possess the ability to work cooperatively with management and legal teams to ensure that all investigative stories meet legal, editorial and ethical standards. Applicants must be a passionate great storytelling, strong writer and interviewer with a keen news sense, research skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, time management skills and knowledge of privacy and libel/slander laws. WRIC is looking for an experienced energetic self starter with good presentation skills to join our sales team. Extensive training and support will be provided. The successful candidate will have the motivation and desire to be the best and will be willing to develop new business and work in a challenging fast paced environment. Internship Opportunities We only offer internships to college students who need the internship for a grade or course.
Deadline for Fall internships: July 10th.
Deadline for Spring internships: November 28th.
Deadline for Summer internships: April 4th.
The following is needed for internship consideration:
--One-page paper, double-spaced explaining why the student wants this internship and what they hope to learn. Include the department/career of interest such as news (producing, photography, reporting), production, sports, graphics, weather; and specify the semester needed (Fall, Spring or Summer).
--Confirmation email from an advisor, dean or registrar's office saying the internship is needed for the student's grade/course. Include how many credit hours are needed
