Mother Speaks Out

One day after police find a body in Mathews County, the mother of missing 17-year-old VCU student, Taylor Behl, says she believes her daughter is dead.

Janet Pelasara says she believes the body found yesterday in Mathews County is that of her daughter. The badly decomposed body was found buried in a shallow grave behind a barn. A source close to the investigation tells 8News the clothing found on the body matches the description of what Behl was wearing the night she disappeared.

Richmond Police say it will be a couple of days before they have a positive ID on those remains. Nonetheless, Janet Pelasara spoke out today at a press conference at her Northern Virginia home.

"I'm sure you can imagine the shock and horror I feel knowing that the body found is most likely my baby. My mind cannot absorb the fact that someone could do something this cruel and heinous to my 17 year old. I am positive the authorities will bring these subhumans to justice and I pray they receive the death penalty," she said.

An attorney for the Pelasara family says Pelasara plans to begin making funeral arrangements later today.
