Car Submerged After Henrico Crash

Henrico Police are investigating an early Monday accident that left a car completely submerged in an area creek.

According to investigators, the accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. The driver of a white sedan driving on Wilkinson Road near Azalea Avenue left the roadway near a bridge, and ended up in a creek. The driver was able to get out of the car and sit on the roof until rescue crews arrived.

The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police had to close the roadway down for several hours while the car was removed from the water. Officials on scene contained a small gas leak in the creek, and said the accident did not cause an environmental hazard.
