
University of Richmond, Henrico County and Richmond police departments have announced an arrest after a person was reportedly seen on the University of Richmond campus carrying a gun Tuesday.
Seth Adam Newman, age 19, of the 1700 block of Chadwick Drive in Henrico County, has been charged with one felony count for hiding his identity and two misdemeanor counts for impersonating a law enforcement officer and acting like a law enforcement officer.
Newman appeared before a Richmond judge Thursday morning to be arraigned. To view the court documents, click here.
Tuesday, a suspect matching Newman's description was seen wearing a holster containing what others described as a "handgun" as he exited the Boatwright Library on the U of R campus. Officials confirmed Newman was did carry a Crossfire pellet gun.
University of Richmond, Henrico County and City of Richmond police immediately responded to the report, placing the campus on lockdown and searching all of the buildings, grounds, and nearby neighborhoods for the suspect. K-9 dogs were also called in to track the suspect's scent. The bloodhounds tracked the suspect up Three Chopt Road toward Patterson Avenue, but then the trail grew cold.
Officials say Boatwright Memorial Library employees contacted U of R police immediately and asked the suspect to leave the building. A surveillance picture from the library was sent 8News, which helped lead to the citizen tip that helped lead police to Newman.
The University of Richmond opened as normal Wednesday.
