RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia state troopers are conducting an operation this weekend to promote traffic safety on Interstates 95 and 81.
Officials say Virginia State Police will be patrolling those interstates on Friday and Saturday as part of Operation Air, Land and Speed.
It is the second such operation on those highways this year. The last enforcement effort yielded record totals on the interstates with 8,844 summonses and arrests.
State Police Superintendent Colonel Steven Flaherty says motorists need to take responsibility for their behaviors on the road. Police are urging motorists to buckle seat belts, avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and drive drug and alcohol free.
