Fire Destroys Chesterfield Home

Updated:
Thursday, firefighters responded to a house fire in Chesterfield at the 8600 block of Baldwin Creek Road.

A little before noon, neighbors called 911 after noticing flames coming out of the two-story house.

No one was home at the time but the owners had a number of animals in the surrounding area that neighbors kept safe until fire crews arrived.

"There were some dogs and cats inside and they had horses and what have you outside and a lot of tractors and jet skis and everything around the house and a lot of neighbors pitched in and got everything out of the way," said neighbor James Leavy.

Responding fire crews had to reach out to surrounding counties for help

"We do not have fire hydrants in this section of Chesterfield County so we have to bring water with us in large quantities in order to fight the fire so we were able to bring tankers from Chesterfield County, as well as Amelia County," said Chief Lee Williams, Chesterfield County Fire Department.

The house was not declared a complete loss though severe damage left the front of house completely destroyed.

No was injured in fire and officials are trying to get in touch with the owners of house who were away for the holiday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
