Popular Pooch Roo Earns Special Treat: A Family

Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A California Chihuahua named Roo who was mysteriously abandoned in Virginia has found a new home in Midlothian.

More than 200 people called about the dog after seeing her photo with a November 19 Richmond Times-Dispatch story about pets affected by the economy.

Richmond Animal League development director Susan Kelly says many of the callers adopted other pets from the shelter.

Jacque Thompson and her husband, Josh, adopted Roo. Jacque Thompson says Roo is already part of the family and has settled in nicely.

Roo was about 5 months old when she was left in her pet carrier at the organization's shelter near Chesterfield Towne Center in mid-November.

The Richmond Animal League tried to identify Roo's owner but was unsuccessful. Roo was then released for adoption.
