Home Invasion In Henrico County

Updated:
Friday, Henrico Police investigated a home invasion in the county's east end.

According to police, an armed intruder kicked in the front door of home on the 200 block of Newbridge Circle just before 6 p.m.

The victims were a mother and her 8-year-old son.

"It made quite a noise when he kicked in the door, and they were in the bedroom when this happened, and he confronted them in the bedroom. He was armed with a handgun," said Lt. Doug Perry, Henrico County Police Department.

Lt. Perry said that the suspect did not hurt the child or his mother, but he did escape with her purse and checkbook.

He says that the family was lucky because it could have been much worse.

"You've got this 8-year-old little boy, who was probably scared to death, not only from the person breaking in, but then he was armed with a gun. So it's a very scary situation and a very dangerous situation."

The suspect was described wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red and blue design.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (804)780-1000.
