RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Richmond man will spend 30 years in prison for strangling his 83-year-old mother to death.
David Ray Worsham was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison, with all but 30 years suspended. The 56-year-old was convicted in May of killing Virginia Worsham last October in the home they shared.
Authorities believe David Worsham used a cord from some blinds to strangle her from behind as she sat in a recliner.
He told police he killed his mother hours after she scorned him for using cocaine. He said he went out to buy cocaine after the murder, then returned to the home to smoke crack. He showed up at a police station hours later and confessed.
