Pastor Recovering After Church Attack

Updated:

A community came together Sunday in support of a Henrico County pastor brutally attacked in his church Saturday.

James Bullock was in his office at the First Free Will Baptist Church on Hungary Road around 8 a.m. Saturday when two males knocked on the door. The suspects demanded money - when Bullock could not produce any, the suspects stabbed Bullock before fleeing the scene.

Sunday, the pastor's congregation came together to pray for Bullock's swift recovery.

"This is a church. This is a house of God," said church member Mary Carter. "We feel safe here. We had no inclination that something like that might happen at this church."

Church member Brenda McPeak found the pastor after the attack, and was the first to call 9-1-1. She told 8News she thinks Bullock will come back as strong as ever.

I think he's going to be sore and he's probably going to need a couple of weeks of recuperation," said McPeak. "I think he's doing good - he's a very strong man."

Bullock was released from the hospital Sunday.

Police are looking for two men in connection with the attack. The first is described as a white male, about 5 foot 9 wearing a black coat and jeans. The other suspect is described as a white male, about 5 foot 6, muscular, with long dark hair, a mustache and sideburns.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
