A Petersburg man is under arrest after allegedly assaulting a woman and setting her on fire.

According to investigators, 51-year-old Henry Morton allegedly attacked an employee of the Petersburg East Apartment Complex around 8:30 this morning in the complex's parking lot.

Morton was released from employment as a maintenance worker at the same complex yesterday.

Witnesses to the attack helped direct police to a transit bus stop, prompting police to issue an alert to all public transportation. The suspect was eventually spotted on a bus and subsequently arrested.

The victim suffered serious burns to her head area and was flown to VCU Medical Center. She is in serious but stable condition.

Morton is charged with aggravated malicious wounding.
