HALIFAX, Va. (AP) - Police say the drowning of a Halifax County toddler in a pond near his home appears to be an accident.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office says the boy was reported missing around 10:15 p.m. Monday night. A searcher found the child less than an hour later.

The boy was pronounced dead at Halifax Regional Hospital.

He was identified as 21-month-old Marcellus Powell.
