Storm Damage Could Close Historic Art Gallery

A popular non-profit Richmond art gallery may have to close its doors because of a leaky roof.

Gallery Five, on Marshall Street, suffered major interior flooding during last week's storms. The Gallery's executive director, Amanda Robinson, said there are more than 30 leaks in their main space, thanks to a faulty roof.

"We've had to rip the walls down, repatch, repaint," said Robinson.

The 160-year-old gallery needs a new roof plus other repairs, all of which could cost $60,000.

"If we can't showcase the work on the walls and we can't have exhibitions we do run the risk of shutting down," said Robinson.

To help raise money to repair the historic gallery, executives have started a "Stop the Leaks" campaign, and volunteers are hoping to raise funds through grants.
