Dutch company Ahold announced Monday the completion of the acquisition of local grocery chain Ukrop's.
Beginning later this spring, all 25 operating Ukrop's stores in Virginia will begin operating under the name of "Martin's," sell beer and wine and stay open on Sundays.
According to a news release, the Ukrop family will continue supplying Ukrop's brand kitchen and bakery products to the Martin's stores.
"Though the name on the front of the store will change later this spring, customers can expect to find the same friendly store associates, including pharmacists," said Rick Herring, president of the Giant-Carlisle division of Ahold. "Will associates be available to carry customers' bags to their car if they would like? You bet they will!"
