RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is keeping a state of emergency in effect as another winter storm bears down on the state.

McDonnell declared a state of emergency last week ahead of a storm that dumped two to three feet of snow in some parts of Virginia. The declaration authorized state agencies to assist local governments in responding to the storm.

Forecasts are calling for more snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

Virginia State Police said they responded to more than 5,000 calls for service from Friday through Sunday, mostly for traffic crashes and disabled vehicles. Also, the Virginia Department of Military Affairs had more than 500 personnel on duty.
