Mims Named To Va. Supreme Court

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Former Attorney General Bill Mims has been named to a 12-year term on the Virginia Supreme Court.

The General Assembly overwhelmingly elected Mims to the position on Wednesday. He succeeds Barbara Keenan, whose appointment to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last week.

Mims spent 11 months as attorney general after Gov. Bob McDonnell stepped down from the office to run for governor. Since January, Mims has been a partner in the powerful law and lobbying firm Hunton & Williams.

Mims is a former state senator from Loudoun County. He served as chief deputy attorney general under McDonnell.

Mims will join the Supreme Court on April 1.
