'It makes me feel scared': Families denied access to loved ones at local rehab center

After weeks without seeing their loved ones, family members are fed up with a health and rehab facility in Henrico.

A stomach bug hit Elizabeth Adam Crump Health and Rehab on Mountain Road in Glen Allen at the end of March.

Family members reached out to 8News after they were told they couldn't visit.

One of them, a Richmond woman, said her 73-year-old mother has been confined to her room for weeks in dirty conditions because staff at the facility won't let them leave their rooms. She said she may have to move her mother out if she doesn't get answers soon.

"For the past three weeks now they have forbidden to go into the facility to see their loved one," said the woman, who wished to not go on camera. "There has never been any communication from the directors at the facility stating what is going on, what the situation is."

The woman said she was able to see her mother once a little more than a week ago and calls her daily. But she claims her mother wasn't allowed to leave her room for days, and while she did not contract the bug, her mother now also has an open wound on her back.

"It makes me feel scared for actually for the residents that are in there," the woman said.

She said she tried to visit her mother again over the weekend, but was denied.

"Still no visitors allowed," she said. "I asked to see something from the health department stating no visitors could come in. They have never been able to produce anything from the health department stating that."

8News went to the Henrico Health Department for answers. Watchen Gretchen Ross' full report tonight on 8News at 5 & 6.
