Driver charged in hit-and-run crash that killed motorcyclist

KING GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been charged with felony hit-and-run following a fatal two-vehicle crash in King George County on Wednesday. 

The wreck occurred at around 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Route 3 and Index Lane. 

According to Virginia State Police, a vehicle being driven by 48-year-old James Norman Rouse of King George County turned onto Index Lane in the path of an oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, who has been identified as 41-year-old Steven Lynn Williams of Alexandria, struck the vehicle on the passenger side and was thrown from the motorcycle. 

Williams succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to VSP.

Authorities say Rouse fled the scene on foot but was eventually located and arrested at around 2:15 a.m. 

The King George County Sheriff's Office, King George and Virginia State Police canine units, FLIR operators and the Virginia State Police High Tech Crimes unit assisted in searching for Rouse.

Rouse has been charged with Felony Hit and Run. Additional charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
