Police ID man killed in North Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man is fighting for his life after he was shot in North Richmond early Friday morning. 

Police told 8News they were called to the shooting at around 2 a.m. in the 3100 block of Alvis Avenue.

Once on scene they found an adult male, who has been identified as 22-year-old Russell J. Long of Greenmoss Rive in Richmond, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to VCU Medical Center where he later died. 

Authorities have not released any suspect information.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
