Police: Incarcerated suspect in Henrico stabbing now charged with Richmond murder

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A 30-year-old man already in jail for a January stabbing is now charged with the murder a 25-year-old woman last October, according to police.

Richmond Police Department announced late Wednesday night that Matthew G. Shea, also of the 4200 block of Old Brook Road, is being held in Henrico County on unrelated charges.

On Oct. 25, detectives were notified of Brown’s death. Police say paramedics found her unresponsive in her home. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

“This investigation presented some challenges,” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “While we knew early on that Ms. Brown died of blunt force trauma, we needed to pinpoint how and why that occurred and who might be responsible for her injuries. It took patient collaboration between my detectives, the Medical Examiner’s Officer and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine she died as the result of an assault.”

In January, Shea was arrested after police say he entered the Ollie's Discount Store, located in the 12400 block of Gayton Road, just after 6:30 p.m. on Monday Jan. 8 with stabbing wounds.

Police were immediately called and the man, later identified as Thomas Clinton McCauley, was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

Anyone with information relative to this investigation is asked to call Major Crimes Detective M.Young at (804) 646-3926 or contact Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or at www.7801000.com. T
