Vandal opens fire with suspected air gun on Glen Allen High School

HENRICO, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico Police are looking for the person who opened fire on Glen Allen High School.

It happened when the school was closed either Wednesday or early Thursday morning. No one was inside.

Police suspect the person responsible used either a BB or airsoft gun.

"Hate to see something like that happen when it's been such a wonderful year for the students," says parent Sara Lewis, who was on campus Thursday for a student awards assembly.

The culprit shattered two sets of glass doors, a classroom window and the school marquis.

Glen Allen High School Principal Reggie Davenport emailed the news to parents.

"We are currently reviewing surveillance footage to figure out with certainty what occurred. And to see if we can identify the person or people responsible."

Davenport added that when caught, the vandal would be dealt with appropriately.

The unexpected vandalism cast a shadow over the Virginia High School League Class 5 and 6 state championships for baseball, softball, soccer and tennis.

The school is hosting the games for the first time and Thursday was opening day. The competition is expected to attract hundreds of spectators.

"I know the AD has been working so hard to get the fields and everything looking spectacular there," explains Lewis who is president of the school's athletic booster club. "It is a beautiful school. The faculty, staff and administration are just fantastic, so it's sad that people come and see some damage has been done like that."

School administrators are still trying to determine how much it will cost to fix the damage.

They hope anyone with information about what happened will come forward and call Henrico Police.
