Meeting tonight to discuss potential pay raise for Richmond City Council members

Are city council members making what they should?

WRIC Newsroom - RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - We should be learning more Wednesday about a potential pay raise for Richmond City Council members.

Are city council members making what they should? This is a story 8News has been following for a few months.

Back in July, Richmond City Council President Michelle Mosby endorsed a plan to have a study done to look at council pay. The study cost $5,000.

In July, Mosby told 8News nothing has been done about the salary for about 18 years.

The salary for the part-time position is based on population and set by the state.

Here's a look at how council pay compares to some other local leaders:

Richmond City Council members earn $25,000 a year. The president makes $27,000. Chesterfield supervisors earn more than $36,000 a year and in Henrico, supervisors there make more than $51,000 a year.

Tonight's council meeting begins at 6 p.m.
