Ryan McAdams wins 4th Congressional District Republican primary

VIRGINIA (WRIC) -- Ryan McAdams won the 4th Congressional District Republican primary on Tuesday night and will face Congressman Donald McEachin in November.

The 4th district in Virginia runs through Dinwiddie, Sussex, Charles City, Prince George County and eastern parts of Henrico County.

Congressman McEachin won the seat in 2016 with more than 57 percent of the vote.

In 2016, McAdams was named the volunteer State Director for the Virginia Prayer Caucus.

McAdams earned a Masters of Divinity in 1997 from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.

A former Virginia State Player of the Year in baseball, McAdams attended Virginia Military Institute on a scholarship before transferring to VCU.

McAdams released a statement following his primary victory:

I am elated and humbled to be the Republican candidate for House of Representatives in the 4th Congressional District.

This has been a remarkable journey over the last 6 months for me and my family. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the great people of the 4th District and this great nation.

I want to first thank God for this victory and for His enabling and sustaining grace. To Him be the glory.  I want to thank Shion Fenty for running a great race and being a gracious and godly candidate. Her future is certainly bright. I want to thank my wonderful family – my wife, Jade, and my four children, John Mark, Zachary, Adrianna, and Kayla. Thank you for your continued loving support and tremendous sacrifice. I could not do this without you.

I want to thank my great campaign team who also has served faithfully and sacrificed a tremendous amount for this win. Thank you JR Gurley, Bert Demicell, Bishop Leon Benjamin, and Chris Shores for all your hard work. I want to give special thanks to Senator Amanda Chase who has been an indispensable part of this campaign and a great friend.

I also want to thank all of the many volunteers, GOP chairs, and elected officials who have believed in me and tirelessly worked and helped me to be successful. A political campaign is a large team with many individual parts, and I am thankful for every person who has given help and support to me in this campaign.

Ultimately, this is not about me, but “we the people” of the 4th District and so I want to thank the voters and citizens of the District who have put their confidence in me and cast their ballot. This is a win for them, for I am a servant of the people and their voice. They are worth fighting for and so is this great nation.

I will be your voice in Washington, DC. I will work to bring back power to the people, to drain the swamp, and push through President Trump's agenda – like keeping the economy going, building the wall, securing our borders, cutting regulations, and shrinking the size of government.

We live in a time when we need bold leadership and someone of principle with core conservative convictions who will stand firm and do the right thing. I am that person.

There is still a lot of work to do, and I want you to know that I fully committed to victory in November. I will continue to work and fight for you and for a better future. Together, I am confident that we can beat Donald McEachin and raise the standard of leadership in the 4thDistrict.

Thank you so much for all of your love and support; let’s go forward in victory!
