Busch Gardens gets approval for new 115-foot-tall attraction

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Busch Gardens in Williamsburg hopes to get bigger and taller.

WVEC reports that the theme park received approval from the James City County Board of Supervisors to expand its Ireland section with a new attraction.

On Tuesday, the board also approved Busch Gardens' request to move their height limitation from 55 feet to 115 feet.

Busch Gardens said in a proposal that staff does not anticipate that the attraction, which is planned to be near the Griffon ride, would be visible from surrounding developments or roadways.

Permits for the construction of foundations and/or footings for the attraction need to be obtained within the next 36 months, or the Height Limitation Wavier will be voided, WVEC reports.

No other details about the planned attraction were released.
