I've been very torn lately about whether or not to write about my efforts to lose weight. I'm having such a hard time that I figure there can't be much that's informative or inspiring about where I am right now.
I also feel like maybe I come across as whining about the challenges or just repeating the same "I'm going to try harder now" variations over and over.
But, in addition to doing it for myself as part of my accountability on this journey, there's also part of me that thinks there's something useful for other people in my admitting that "yes, this is hard" and that it's not always possible to get everything going in the right direction again after a week or two or even 10. Because when it seems like it's easy for everyone else, as soon as it's hard, you just want to give up.
And I refuse to give up.
After countless efforts over close to 30 years, that's what makes this time completely different -- I refuse to get to the point where I just throw my hands up and say I won't bother trying anymore.
I've been gaining and losing and losing and gaining for the past 6 months -- but that's better than just gaining steadily.
I haven't been going to the gym for the past couple of weeks – but I bring my clothes to work every day so as soon as I can motivate to go, I won't have any excuses to derail me. I also have an appointment with my trainer on Saturday that I will not skip.
I eat more than I should and indulge in "unhealthy" foods – but every morning I still weigh myself and start with the best of intentions.
And one of these days, I'll go a whole day moving in the right direction and then that will lead to two days and then that will lead to a week. And I will get back on track again.
If you are struggling, there's nothing wrong with asking for help. Here are some of the things you can do for support (I'm doing several of these!):
