Be Financially Prepared For A Hurricane

June 1st marks the official start of Hurricane season. If a storm hits Central Virginia, you need to be financially prepared for the worst. To help you get prepared, Virginia offers a state tax holiday which runs from May 25th until Memorial Day. During that week you will not have to pay the 5% sales tax on emergency items.

Emergency supplies such as batteries, flashlights and bottled water will be tax free for the week.  Generators that cost under $1,000 are also eligible for the tax free deal.

Two other suggestions to help you prepare:

~ Always have an emergency supply of cash. If an ATM runs out of money, you may be out of luck.

~ Review your insurance and make sure that your insurance coverage really reflects the assets that you have and the value of those assets.
