Uncle Sam Is Going Paperless

Starting in March of next year, all federal payments will be made electronically. The Treasury Department will make payments through a debit card or direct deposit to a bank account.

People affected by the change will be those that receive:

~ Social Security Benefits

~ Veterans Benefits

~ Supplemental Security Income

Federal officials say the new program will save the government more than $300 million dollars in the first 5 years alone. They also point to the benefits of paperless transactions: convenience, same-day deposits and a reduction in fraud and abuse.
