Yianni Kourakis is the Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter at Channel 8. You can watch him on the weekend edition of 8News at 6 and 11.
Yianni joined in the 8Sports team in July 2010. Prior to moving to Richmond, Yianni spent two years at WBOC in Salisbury, Maryland as their weekend sports anchor/reporter. He also worked behind the scenes at the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) covering the Baltimore Orioles.
During his time at Channel 8, Yianni says the highlight was covering VCU's historic run to the Final Four-a three week and four city tour from Dayton, OH to Houston, TX. He also enjoys co-anchoring 8Sports' Friday Night Football show "8NewsBlitz".
Yianni is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland. During college, he interned at WRC in Washington, D.C. as well as WLNE in Providence, Rhode Island. Yianni is originally from Wakefield, Rhode Island but has progressively moved south and enjoys calling Richmond home.
