UPDATE from Radford University:
RADFORD -- The Radford City Police Department notified Radford University officials on Friday, October 15, that a university student had been found dead in an off-campus residence earlier that afternoon. The student has been identified as Samuel Mason, a 20 year-old sophomore from Chesterfield, Va.
Circumstances surrounding Mason's death are unknown at this time and the Radford City Police Department is investigating the incident. The Radford University Police Department, as well as the rest of the university community, is fully cooperating with the city police department on the investigation.
"The entire Radford University family is saddened by this tragic loss of one of our students," said Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle. "We extend our deepest condolences, heartfelt prayers and sympathy to Sam's parents, family, and his many friends during their time of grief."
Student Counseling Services in the university's Office of Student Affairs has established a temporary counseling center to assist members of the campus community who are experiencing difficulties in coping with the loss.
The Radford City Police Department is investigating the death of a Radford University Student.
Police found 20-year-old Samuel Mason dead in an off-campus residence early Friday afternoon. The University is cooperating with the police investigation.
Very little details are available at this time. Mason was a sophomore at the university and was from the Richmond area.
