The World's Largest Truck Convoy made its way through the Commonwealth Saturday to raise money for the Special Olympics.
The one day event is happening in more than 30 different states and provinces throughout the U.S. and Canada. The event will benefit Special Olympic athletes.
This is the first year the convoy has come to Virginia. Police escorted a dozen trucks down Interstate 95 to Meadow Event Park.
"Just like the Special Olympics is part of movement that's national and international," said Roy Zeidman, of the Virginia Special Olympics, "the World's Largest Truck Convoy is the same thing. We are part of a larger effort that's going on."
Several companies in the area sponsored the event. Special Olympics athletes were also in attendance.
Coordinators are already looking to next year.
"We are growing as we go along," Zeidman said. "The first truck convoy in Raleigh, NC had 14 trucks, so we seem to be right on target to have 40 or 50 next year, and to grow and do better."
